Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
FBA analyzes a students behavior under many varying circumstances and environments. It analyzes the student under specific guidelines such as, Who is the behavior occurring around? When is the behavior happening? Is it the same subject or time of day? Does the location trigger this specific behavior? How long is the behavior lasting? The assessment must be very detailed to make sure that any factor that causes this behavior is taken into consideration.

Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
Behavior Intervention Plans are comprised of data and information analyzed in an FBA. They are developed to address undesired behaviors, but most importantly, the most disruptive and destructive behavior. In doing so small steps must be taken in order to address and change the students behavior to one that is more desired. Once the teacher and staff have come up with the target behavior, they must then come up with a replacement behavior. This chosen replacement behavior should be nearly identical to the targeted behavior because this process is meant to make the transition as smooth as possible for the student. Next the teacher has to introduce the student to the replacement behavior and teach the student exactly what skills we are expecting them to portray. Then the teacher will teach the student preventative strategies to keep the target behavior from reoccurring. This will be followed by reinforcement strategies to encourage the student to keep using appropriate behaviors. Lastly you want to introduce the student to the daily routine plan so that they know exactly what to expect and the target behavior is not triggered. A Crisis Plan is also made just in case the behavior is displayed yet again in a more volatile manner than normal. The teacher must then record all of the data that is observed to show the effectiveness of the plan.
